The two-time Latin GRAMMY® nominated musical producer, Pedro “sP” Polanco has once again stepped up to bat, this time with: “sP Music Presents: La Copa Rota feat. Jashel” … the ball has gone far, one would dare say, beyond reach but we’ll leave that up to you.
The ability to reproduce a classic bolero from your grandparents’ era without losing its essence has proven itself to be a challenge for many –a challenge that not everyone is willing to take on or worse, accomplish.
In this reproduction of the classic bolero, La Copa Rota, sP has proven his ability to not only capture the
essence of the song, but has collectively with his team of musicians, executed a refreshing Urban Bachata that resonates with his generation. “I made sure everyone that participated not only listened to the song but … understood it, lived it … and respected its integrity” shares sP. This is exemplified down to the very selection of the vocalist, sP explains “La Copa Rota is a very complex record and we wanted to pay tribute to Jose Feliciano's rendition, therefore, Jashel’s sincere interpretation of the song, does just this.”
For this musical prodigy there is no such thing as “trade secrets” – in fact sP chuckled at the question and nobly replied, “I don’t have any trade secrets, as a matter of fact, one can give you a formula, but the truth is … each producer is the key ingredient. That goes across aboard – I’m sure any producer would agree.”
His recent Latin GRAMMY® nominations have only inspired him to work harder, an impeccable work ethic that reflects in his work. As more light is shed on the man-behind-the-craft, his mission is evident. “I want to continue to produce music that my audience can not only relate to but more importantly … I’d like for my music to stand the test of time, just like ‘La Copa Rota’ did.”
When asked for his take on success and failure – his simplicity must be noted. “It’s simple, without failure there cannot be success. For instance, I believe everyone’s contribution to music is valuable … it’s our people that determine the rest. We do the best that we can.”
Naturally, leading you to wonder if there are any “continuing education” elements for a musical producer, in general and for one of his caliber.
“Of course, [as cliché as it may sound] I learn something new every day! I learn from other artists, producers
… from live music in bars, underground indie bands … I surround myself with younger people – because they know what’s trending… the key is to stay relevant… stay connected.”
